EPL: Bale torments Burnley with ruthless display as Tottenham beat Burnley

Gareth Bale rolled back the years with a virtuoso display that was instrumental in Tottenham thrashing Burnley in North London.

The on-loan forward made just his third Premier League start of the season for Tottenham against Burnley.

The Wales international is enjoying a resurgence after a disappointing first few months of the campaign and came into the side, along with Serge Aurier, who had recovered from a calf injury.

Jay Rodriguez shook off a knock to start for Burnley, with Chris Wood returning to the bench.

Bale’s resurgence continued as he scored after just 67 seconds. Son Heung-min made headway down the left and Bale arrived late to poke home from close range.

The Welsh winger had made an electric start and then notched an assist in the 15th minute. A brilliant 50-yard pass set Harry Kane free and the England captain’s deflected shot found the back of the net.

Bale also contributed to Tottenham’s third goal after 31 minutes. He sprayed the ball out to Sergio Reguilon and the Spaniard’s cross fell to Lucas Moura, who lashed the ball into the bottom corner.

Spurs could have been even further out of side by the half-time whistle, but had to settle for a commanding 3-0 lead.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first finished, with Tottenham punishing the Clarets again in a ruthless counter.

Son fed Bale down the right who cut inside and whipped a superb effort in off the post to make it 4-0.

Gareth Bale has scored twice in a match for the first time since in Real Madrid’s 2-2 La Liga draw at Villarreal in September

Four could’ve become five with 20 minutes remaining, but Nick Pope did tremendously well to tip a violently swerving Kane effort over the crossbar.

The England stopper was the only thing standing in a way of a thorough thrashing.

He came to Burnley’s rescue once more moments later as Son attempted to get his name on the scoresheet with a low drive that was palmed round the post for a corner.

Burnley were able to stop the bleeding at four, but the full-time whistle eventually came on an afternoon that will leave Spurs fans full of anticipation at how potent their forward line could be with a fit and firing Gareth Bale.
